Our soap nuts are dried berries that grow naturally in Nepal. They contain a natural saponin that the tree uses to repel insects.

For hot water washing, put 4-5 soap nuts in a muslin bag, sock or nylon stocking and place into the washing machine. For cold water washing, soak the nuts in a cup of hot water for 5 minutes before using to release the saponifying agent. Pour the liquid into the wash with the muslin bag. Each set of soap nuts can be used 4-6 times. Replace soap nuts once they begin to thin and turn grey.

To make a concentrate for washing, simmer a handful of soap nuts in 3-4 cups of water for 1/2 an hour. Cool and strain liquid. Freeze the conentrate into ice cubes to use for laundry, household uses or shampoo.

Each 8 ounce package of soap nuts contains 2 muslin bags.

Packaged in a compostable bag.
